Ticket Dismissed in King County

A great outcome in a traffic case recently filed in King County but the offense took place in Snohomish County. In this case, the officer first observed my client “appear to be speeding by a visual estimation” while on I-5 in King County heading northbound.” However, the officer explained that he did not actually obtain a speed measurement while in moving mode “until we began to approach the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center and, at that time I obtain a speed reading above the posted limit.” I then argued to the judge that the speed measurement was actually taken by the officer after moving into Snohomish County despite first observing the driver in King County. The officer actually conducted the speed estimation once the vehicle had entered into Snohomish County and therefore was no longer in King County. After consideration the judge agreed and dismissed the case on jurisdiction grounds.
